Overview

The Recreation Department of the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services serves adults and children who reside in Montgomery County, Ohio and receive services from the Board.

Program Goals

Program goals include:
  • To promote and encourage socialization in a safe environment
  • To provide a variety of opportunities for activity
  • To promote physical fitness
  • To work with individuals and families to best meet their recreation and respite needs
  • To work to ensure that everyone who takes part in MCBDDS Recreation activities enjoys themselves
  • To promote participation in community-based recreation

Health and Safety

Health and safety are important to our program.  Individuals who are new to MCBDDS Recreation will need to schedule an assessment before taking part in activities.  This assessment will help the Recreation staff determine whether or not they can safely provide the service to you in the community, or whether you will need to attend a program offered in one of our facilities.

As the health of all participants is our concern, we ask that individuals who are ill DO NOT attend MCBDDS Recreation activities.

Required Information

Before individuals can take part in any MCBDDS Recreation program, the staff must have current versions of the following forms and/or information on file:
  • Recreation Liability Release Form
  • Clearance for Community Education/Public Awareness Form
  • Individual Information and Emergency Form
  • Authorization for Emergency Medical Treatment Form
  • Insurance Information
  • HIPAA Notification and Consent for Publication Form

Staff to Individual Ratio

The Recreation staff ratio is one staff member to three individuals.

Registration

Activity participation is limited, and registration is handled on a first-come, first served basis. Early registration is recommended.

Adult activities are only for individuals 18 years of age and older.  Individuals must be 18 at the time of the event to participate.

Children's activities are for youth ages 6 to 17.

For details about how to register, please visit the Recreation Registration page.

Payment

In order to participate in any Recreation activity, you must have money in by the deadline established for that activity. Some activities may require a deposit.  MCBDDS can invoice you for the total amount, as this will help Recreation staff organize and plan appropriately for the activities.  Payments can be made on a monthly basis, so as to avoid one large bill.  Please note:  Reminders WILL NOT be sent to individuals who have registered for activities.  All checks should be made payable to the Montgomery County Board of DDS.

Refunds

If you have paid for a trip and have to cancel, you will be credited the fees IF you cancel two full weeks prior to the activity.  No refunds will be credited for any cancellations that are made within the two weeks prior to the activity.  The exceptions are events at LaComedia and overnight trips, which will only be refunded six weeks prior to the activity.
