Montgomery County Board of DDS
In Memory Of...Moment of Silence Observed
Making a difference

Louie Lowe will be 70 years old soon and has worked for 32 years within the Board of Developmental Disabilities Services. He has been an excellent employee, working the last 5 years on the Calumet PM cleaning crew.
Louie was one of eight children born into his family then residing in Kentucky. He was diagnosed with Moderate Mental Retardation at an early age.
After relocating to Ohio, Louie began his life's journey with the Board in the sheltered workshop in February of 1980. For many years, he was content to work within the Kuntz Adult Services Center and always did a good job no matter what the task.
Due to his excellent work ethic, he began working in the MONCO enclaves beginning in November of 2006. He is one of those individuals that simply comes to work each day, and, though he doesn't read or write, understands that he is on the job to do a job, and he does it.
Louie's mother taught him the value of work at an early age; teaching him how to sweep floors and sidewalks, carry out garbage, do laundry, and walk to the local store for items. Likely, the ones that truly appreciated him over the years (while on the job), were his work supervisors, who all knew they could count on Louie to be there and do what was expected of him.
His coworkers seem to respect him for how he has modeled what it is to understand the meaning of work, and consistently does whatever is asked of him. Louie is somewhat difficult to understand when he speaks, but his smile easily reflects his positive attitude toward life.
On the job, Louie has been praised for many years of arriving to work and getting right on it, doing whatever was asked of him, with little waste of time. Of the various responsibilities at Calumet, Louie would focus in on making sure all the trash was picked up and properly disposed of. Matt Agee (work supervisor) has taken a special interest in Louie and just refers to him as a "great guy". He will be missed on the Calumet PM cleaning crew.
