Home Energy Assistance Summer Program Available
Funding to assist eligible households with summer cooling costs through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Summer Crisis Program is available July 1 - August 31.
The HEAP Summer Crisis Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development's Community Development Division, provides assistance to low-income households with a family member age 60 years or older, or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health.
Qualifying households are eligible for electric bill payment assistance of up to $175, and these households also may wish to contact local community action agencies, departments of Job and Family Services, and faith-based organizations for additional assistance.
Last year, more than 42,000 Ohio families were assisted through HEAP's Summer Crisis Program.
For information regarding household income eligibility and other qualifying information, visit the HEAP Summer Crisis Program website at www.energyhelp.ohio.gov or call the toll-free HEAP hotline at (800) 282-0880. Individuals with hearing impairments may dial (800) 686-1557 for assistance.
