The goal of the Board's Community Integration program is to promote inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in community-based opportunities, including volunteering, recreation and socialization. We do this by meeting with individuals and their teams, directing them to community opportunities and resources, and supporting their efforts to access them. Staff carry out assessments, make referrals, coordinate transportation, help address accessibility concerns, and conduct reviews to ensure the person is meeting their outcomes while encouraging their independence.
The Community Integration team also offers a limited number of activities for individuals served that are supported by volunteers.
MCBDDS also works with a variety of community organizations to advocate for the needs of people with developmental disabilities. This advocacy has led to expanded opportunities for people in Montgomery County.
