Drivers with communication disabilities can let law enforcement know about their disability is through the Blue Envelope Program. This program provides drivers with a number of tools, including a blue envelope, a window decal, and a wallet card.
- The Blue Envelope: This tool allows the driver to have all of the information they need in one place, making it easier to communicate with officers, and reduce anxiety during a traffic stop. Drivers record information about their disability on the outside of the envelope, and include copies of their driver's license, vehicle registration and vehicle insurance card.
- Blue Envelope Window Decal: A window decal featuring a pictograph of a blue envelope discreetly alerts law enforcement and first responders that the driver participates in the program. In the case of an injury-related accident, the decal alerts them to look for the blue envelope, which contains critical information about the person.
- Blue Envelope Wallet Card: The wallet card is a smaller version of the envelope that can be carried in a wallet, pocket or purse.
