There is so much each of us can do, as individual members of the community, to be champions for people with disabilities. Here are nine ways we can make life more equitable and inclusive for all:
- Learn the basics of online accessibility and ensure your website is accessible.
- Use the accessibility checker function in your word processing software to ensure your documents are accessible.
- Hire an American Sign Language interpreter for your events.
- Install automatic doors and universal changing stations in your facilities to ensure access for all.
- Hire someone with a disability for a job or for their expertise or talents.
- Invite people with disabilities to be on committees to ensure that their needs are considered in projects and plans
- Develop activities that everyone can participate in, regardless of their physical or intellectual ability.
- Borrow a mobile universal changing table free from MCBDDS for your event. Call 937-236-8035.
- Rent our Mobile Accessible Restroom for your festival or large event to enable people with disabilities to participate. Call 937-236-8035.
If your organization would like more information about how you can become more disability friendly, or wish to partner with MCBDDS to become a disability champion, please contact our Community Relations Department at 937-776-0866.
